All personnel should be aware of the fire threats in their workplace and know what to do in the event of a fire. Emergency planning and training can directly influence the outcome of an emergency situation. Well-prepared employees and well-developed preparedness plans are likely to incur less physical damage and fewer or less severe employee injuries. Preparing ahead of time for an emergency incident is critical for ensuring that employers and employees have the appropriate equipment, know where to go, and how to be safe in the event of an emergency.
Description
This course was created to meet OSHA’s fire protection standards 29 CFR 1910.157, 1910.38, and 1910.39 for personnel who have been designated by their employer to use portable fire extinguishers in the workplace. Employees learn how to choose and utilize the appropriate fire extinguisher for the job. Employees will receive an overview of fire extinguisher standards, as well as education in the general concepts of fire extinguisher use and the hazards associated with early-stage firefighting. This course also covers Emergency Action Plans and Evacuation Procedures.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Implement emergency response and preparedness procedures
- Describe the elements of an Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
- Identify distinctive and perceivable alarms for emergency evacuation
- Identify evacuation routes and accountability methods
- Describe the elements of a Fire Prevention Plan (FPP)
- Identify relevant fire hazards and self-protection procedures
- Describe the type and appropriate use of portable fire extinguishers
