Healthcare Practitioner Human Trafficking Course (Texas HHSC Approved)

$25.95

Healthcare practitioners are ideally positioned to intervene in human trafficking, one of the most sinister and seemingly unnoticeable public health challenges. This includes labor and sex trafficking and may involve people of any age, gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, immigration status, or sexual orientation. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) approved training course for healthcare practitioners meets the Texas requirement to recognize, intervene, and report suspected human trafficking.

Description

Victims of human trafficking may visit local clinics, emergency rooms, or other medical settings. Studies have shown that approximately 50% of trafficking victims saw a healthcare professional while held captive. Health care teams trained to identify human trafficking victims can offer life-saving options to victims who want to escape their trafficker. This training was designed to provide resources to educate and support planning when a victim is identified.

This course was designed with the advice and expertise of Becca Cary, a human trafficking survivor.  She is the founder of Hands of Justice, an anti-trafficking non-profit in Montgomery County, Texas.  Becca holds the Survivor position on the board for Montgomery County Coalition Against Human Trafficking, is a member of the Survivor Expert Advisory Committee (SEAC) with the Houston Rescue and Restore Coalition, and is a member of the Survivor Advisory Committee for the State of Texas. A portion of all sales of this course will be donated to Hands of Justice.
